The rise of the “Metaverse” is inevitable. It’s not a question of how it will happen, but rather when and what shape it takes. The fact that we’re seeing augmented reality glasses that can project 3D holograms into our world speaks volumes to the direction in which technology is heading. Soon enough, this could be an everyday occurrence for us all.

While it’s very likely that your current job won’t mean much when the Metaverse finally becomes a part of our everyday lives, there are ways to get ahead in the game. If you’re looking for a job in the virtual reality space now, there are some things you can start doing right this minute to get a leg up on other applicants.

Let’s take a peek at 5 ways you can get a job in the Metaverse.

1. Have the right experience or knowledge

To land a job working in the Metaverse, you must ensure that your experience on paper (i.e., resume) matches what the company is looking for. For example, if they’re looking for an expert in Unity or some other game engine, try taking projects using this software and showing them off on your resume. On the other hand, if you’re applying for a job at a workplace where they predominantly build games, try taking already released games and rebuilding them with custom scripts to add new levels.

When it comes to knowing the Metaverse and its ins and outs, make sure you have a solid understanding of how things work. For example, networking is one of those things that people say they should do more often but always end up falling through. While it’s not something that will land you a job overnight (and sometimes networking can feel ineffective), there are clear benefits to talking with industry professionals currently working in the Metaverse.

If you don’t have any work under your belt yet, get out there and start making contacts in the virtual reality community. Offer to help people with their tech support problems because it’s good practice and because people will be more inclined to remember your help and recommend you in the future.

2. Meet, network, & interact

There are a lot of virtual reality developers out there, but not all of them have a deep understanding of how things work. So if you’re looking for work right now, one of the best things you can do is get to know some of the most successful and innovative companies out there. In particular, working at a company that is pioneering holographic video or augmented reality software is an excellent way to get ahead of the game.

To meet these people, you might want to attend virtual conferences, where they share their knowledge and expertise. You can also try attending in-person meetings with companies or joining online communities (such as subreddits) where like-minded individuals talk about this stuff. Please make sure these types of conversations are on your radar because it’s likely that certain employers will be looking for applicants who have already taken an interest in what they do. Then, start applying for jobs once you’ve got some experience under your belt and feel confident enough to show off your skills.

3. Build your brand

One of the most effective ways to get a job and keep it is by building your brand. This means that you need to develop an online presence that people can find when looking for someone just like you. But, of course, this isn’t something you should do overnight-or even in a couple of weeks, but instead, it’s something that takes time and consistency.

Start by creating a website or blog to post articles that interest you. Also, don’t forget about social media platforms such as Twitter, where you can show off your personality. If possible, try adding these links on your resume so employers can be sure to find them immediately if they are looking for someone with skills relating to what you offer. One of the things many employers look for when hiring someone is a portfolio where they can see examples of your work. In some cases, this means providing links on your resume that point towards blogs or websites where they can read more about what you’ve been up to.

4. Content creation

If you want to do a job out of content creation for virtual reality games, your best bet is to pick an engine or software where you are familiar with it. Then, use the skills you have developed over time and show how well-rounded your abilities are by taking existing games and rebuilding them. You can even go one step further than that by creating tutorials on how other people could create similar experiences using game engines like Unity3D or game engine plugins such as Playmaker.

This method works particularly well if you’re applying for a job at places like Valve Software’s SteamVR team, which has shown tremendous interest in helping developers build their worlds so they can run their businesses. If the Metaverse is about anything, it’s about allowing people to create virtual worlds that they can call their own.

5. Get yourself out there

It’s no secret that many employers won’t consider applicants unless they have heard about them somehow. This means one of the best ways to get a job in virtual reality is to do something that gets you known! You can do several things, from creating your educational videos to participating in events where you will meet new people and establish yourself as someone more than just a name on a CV.

If you want to be successful in the Metaverse, you must be doing something. Whether this is content creation for virtual reality games or networking with people who work at various companies-it doesn’t matter as long as you’re putting yourself out there and showing employers what they need to know about your skillset, with these five tips on how to get a job in the Metaverse.
