Making money in college is not easy, and I get it. You have several different classes to attend and then study afterward for tests and quizzes. However, you don’t have to work a traditional job to make some extra cash.

A college education doesn’t come cheap and having an enormous student loan is not a pleasant thing. However, thanks to the Internet, there are legitimate ways you can make some extra dough while you are in college.

Side note: Here is a great video by Ali Abdaal on how to make passive income.

The Internet doesn’t have to be your only option; there are some services that you can offer in-person, such as tutoring on a college campus or driving for your campus transportation.

In today’s article, we will explore the 10 best ways to make money in college. You don’t have to do them all, but you can certainly do more than one as they don’t take long. Plus, they are pretty simple.

Offer Tutoring on Campus

Tutoring is a legitimate way to make some extra cash, and if you are well-versed in a particular subject, you can offer your services to other students on campus quite easily. Many students look for additional tutoring while in college, and the best way to find out how you can tutor is to ask someone who is already doing it. You can also go to your department’s head and inquire about how to offer tutoring services.

Every college has its policy, and some may not even have a tutoring policy. In this case, you can work freelance and find tutoring jobs online on websites such as Fiverr and Upwork.

However, be sure that you have a deep understanding of the subject you are offering to tutor. For example, upper-level engineering students should be competent enough to teach introductory math and physics courses.

You can also make money by writing for an online blog such as medium.

Freelance Work

When it comes to freelance work, there is no limit to how much you can work. With hundreds of freelance websites around, you can make a profile in a few minutes and get to work. The services you will provide will depend on your skills. It doesn’t have to be something specific; for example, many students would write decent articles or blog posts, etc. You can offer writing services. Perhaps you are good at voice acting or picture editing. Whatever you choose, make sure you deliver the work on time and only take on those jobs that you know won’t take too much of your time. A couple of right places to start are Fiverr and Upwork.

Teaching Assistant

You have probably seen professors at your college having a teaching assistant who helps them with class-related tasks. You can do that too. Becoming a teaching assistant does require that you have a pre-existing relationship with your professor. It also helps if you have already taken that particular class. Teaching assistant jobs are typically advertised on campus job boards, but I recommend directly talking to your professor first.

Moreover, if you already want to pursue a career in academia, then a TA job is not only good because of the cash but will also prepare you for the field.

Fill out online surveys.

There are hundreds of research companies online that offer good cash for filling out surveys. These companies are always looking to collect data on one thing or another, so there isn’t any shortage of surveys.

Usually, you can make anywhere between a dollar and $5 for a few mins of your time; however, some can pay more depending on the type of survey. If you can do this every day a few times, you can rack up some nice change overtime.

Some useful websites to look at are Branded Surveys, LifePoints, InboxPounds, OnePoll, i-Say, Opinion Outpost, YouGov, Pinecone, SurveyBods, Panel Base.

Join Campus IT

Colleges will routinely post jobs related to IT. If you are handy with computers and technology, this could be an excellent way for you to earn some extra while racking up some real-life experience. However, in some cases, there might be requirements such as some IT certification. You will be able to gather all the relevant information from your college’s appropriate department.

Consider Youtube

You may be surprised to know how much Youtubers with even small channels make for every video they upload. Youtube doesn’t only have to be a distraction. It can make you quite a bit of cash; however, this would, in large part, depend on your personality and the sort of content you create.

For every 1000 views, you can earn anywhere from $1 and $5. This means you can potentially make $100 for every 50,000 views each month. Plenty of people do it successfully but starting can be difficult and may take some initial time investment until you start making money.

If you want to do this, then go ahead and look it up. There are some tremendous starting-out free resources out there to help you.

Sell your notes

If you have worked hard and taken down detailed notes in a previous class, they can be valuable. You can do this online on websites like NoteSale. The way it works is that you will put up your notes and set an amount for them. Every time a student buys them, you will be given a share. However, keep in mind that your notes’ quality should be high, preferably with detailed charts and graphs if required.

Drive for Uber or Lyft

Already own a car and want to earn some extra cash? Driving for Uber and Lyft is quite an excellent option for college students. You don’t have to do it full-time; a few hours every day can also help out quite a bit. The great thing is you choose the hours and passengers might even give you tips on top of the fare.

Although these companies advertise around $25/hour, this is, of course, very rare. A more realistic figure would be closer to minimum wage, which is not bad at all.

Some requirements are: You should be 21, with a valid license, registration, and insurance. You will have to pass a background check, and your vehicle must qualify the company’s standards.

Write Music Reviews

If you love listening to music and have a right ear for it, why not earn listening and writing reviews. Websites like MusicXray and SliceThePie will let you listen to unsigned bands and artists to get your feedback. All you will have to do is write a detailed review of a song specifying the things you liked and disliked.

Sell Stock Photos

If you got a knack for photography and own a DSLR camera, you may be able to make some good cash. Even if you don’t have professional-grade equipment, which is more likely, you still might have a flagship smartphone, and their cameras are good enough. A good starting point is Adobe Stock or Getty Images.

There are so many stock image websites that if you google it, a whole bunch will popup. All you will be doing is take pictures of different scenarios and objects and then put them up for a fixed price. Research a bit see what sort of photos are in high demand.

Here are some more great ways of making money online from the comfort of your college dorm.
