2024 GRE Registration in Pakistan

There are a couple of ways to register for the GRE exam in Pakistan. You should familiarize yourself with them before registering.

GRE is a highly competitive and challenging entrance test for all Pakistani students planning to pursue higher education in the U.S. Moreover, most of the students in Pakistan are unfamiliar with many of the periphery steps required for GRE registration in Pakistan. In this article, I will elucidate the various methods for registering for your GRE exam.

Prometric testing center, which is located in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad is the organization that conducts the GRE exam in Pakistan. It does this in collaboration with the United States Education Foundation in Pakistan – in short, the USEFP. One of the major reasons that students register for the GRE exam in Pakistan is the Fulbright scholarship. Every year the US government, through the USEFP, provides hundreds of scholarships to Pakistani students for higher education in the U.S. GRE is the core requirement for the Fulbright scholarship program.

You do not need a passport or a CNIC to register for the GRE test. However, you need your passport or your SMART CNIC on the test day since these are the only ID’s accepted by the ETS. The Urdu based CNIC is not accepted as a valid form of ID for the GRE. Therefore, make sure you have a valid passport or a valid SMART CNIC at the time you take the GRE exam.

The latest GRE test fee can be checked here. The GRE test fee included 4 free score reports. This means that by paying the GRE fee, you are allowed to send up to 4 scorecards for free to various institutes and organizations.

There are 2 different modes of registering for the GRE.

Method 1:
Online Registration

This is the preferred method to register for the GRE exam. If you have access to a credit/debit card (of any bank), then you can register and schedule your GRE test online from the convenience of your home. The credit/debit card does not necessarily be in your name. You can use any one’s card to register online.

To use a debit card on the internet you will have to call your bank and request them for internet registration & session activation and specify the time and maximum transaction amount. This is not required for credit cards.

To register online simply go here.

Method 2:
Visit the USEFP office

If you do not have access to a credit/debit card, then you can also register for GRE at USEFP centers in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. First, contact their office and confirm the dollar rate and the exact amount from them. Then create a bank draft in favor of the “United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan”. Once you submit the draft, you will be intimated of your test date in a couple of days.

Contact information of USEFP offices can be found here.

Alternatively, you can call them at 051-8431407.

Or email USEFP at:

[email protected] (Islamabad)
[email protected] (Karachi)
[email protected] (Lahore)

The GRE is a computer-delivered test and is offered year-round.  My suggestion is that you register for the exam online as it is not only convenient but it also confirms your test date and time immediately. Moreover, you can also reschedule or cancel your exam at any time.

So, if you do not own a credit/debit card, just borrow it to ensure seamless and instant GRE registration.
