For hundred’s of MIT applicants, their applications had been apparently accepted – their prayers had come true. MIT mistakenly sent a mass email to many applicants telling them they had got an admission in MIT whereas they had not.

This happened because MIT sent out an erroneous email regarding scholarships which had a foot note saying: “You are on this list because you are admitted to MIT!”.

MIT officials immediately issued an apology, apologizing about the mistake.

The error occurred because MIT’s staff compiled the wrong email lists causing excitement and then disappointment to the applicants. The Boston Globe reports that MIT didn’t notice the mistake until applicants started inquiring – many students said the incident had “crushed” them.
