In addition, with the increase in online learning and alternative credentialing, it has become easier than ever to gain the necessary skills required for a specific job. Therefore, you must focus on developing your skillset rather than spending all your time and money getting a degree. To stand out as an applicant, you need to show that you can do what they’re hiring for – not just say that you can do it. Achieving this requires dedication, hard work, and creativity – something we see less of every day because people spend too much time focused on grades instead of practical knowledge or creative skills. Many companies look at who you are and what you can bring to their company instead of where you went to school or how much money your family has. Universities gain the most from students staying in school for as long as possible, but most people would instead work than study. Spending time getting a degree isn’t worth it if it will be years before you get a job that lets you use it.

What happened, how it happened and what was learned? It’s time to start thinking outside the degree box. Companies hire those with specific skill sets that can be used right away and will work for their company. Suppose you haven’t completed your education yet. In that case, you should begin building your skillset as soon as possible by learning a second language or honing an already existing skill, such as coding. The more you can do, and the better you can do it, the higher your chance of getting a job. Even if it isn’t in your preferred field right away, having other skills will help you get there soon – whether through promotion or finding a new company/industry that will take advantage of what you can offer.

In the future, companies will hire freelancers rather than full-time employees. But why? There are several reasons for this, mainly that hiring a freelancer is less expensive and sometimes more productive than hiring a new employee. In addition, with everything being available on the internet, it’s easy to find someone who can help with various freelance tasks – from writing code to designing product prototypes. Freelance work lets you take on smaller projects without having to take a fundamental role at once, leaving room for additional income generation opportunities if one project doesn’t pan out as you’d hoped. You’ll also not be tied down to one company or job, which means you’ll gain experience in different areas over time instead of staying in the same position for five years and becoming stagnant.

Changing Work Dynamics

With the increase in online employment opportunities, it’s becoming easier to find work outside of a company. As companies rely more and more on freelancers, expect them to be phased out completely eventually. Instead, the future is gig-based, meaning that people will be employed only as the need arises rather than working for one company full time. This means that there will be more opportunity for variety and creativity – especially if you’re working with other like-minded individuals (who are likely doing the same).

Creativity is Key

If you want to stand out as an applicant, you’ll need to show what makes you unique through your portfolio or other projects online. Owning a successful business requires having employees who can do their job well without much supervision – which only comes with experience. Start making connections now by taking on freelance work to see where it leads. This is the future of employment, so get ahead of the game and start developing your skillset instead of wasting time on coursework for degrees you don’t need. Future jobs require creative skills – whether engineering, writing or coding. The more you can do and the better you are at doing them, the higher your chance of getting hired. If you want to avoid the minimum wage lifestyle, stop focusing on getting a degree and concentrate on your skillset instead.

As we see today, big internet companies such as Google, Twitter and Facebook weren’t created by people who had degrees from prestigious universities. But why is that? They found a market and a skill that was well-suited to that market. While they may not have had degrees, they were able to develop valuable skills and could be used immediately – which is what matters most when it comes to employment. So stop thinking about getting a degree and start thinking about building your own business and personal skill set. We’ve seen the rise of online education over the past several years, meaning that anyone can gain access to transferable skills without having to spend thousands of dollars on traditional university courses. These days, companies are looking for people who fit right in with their company’s culture – even if you don’t think you’re qualified enough. The days of degrees are ending; get ahead of the game by gaining secondary education or experience in your area of expertise. This means no more wasting time in college (or university) to get a degree that you don’t need – worry about getting the skills that will help you find employment instead. The future is in freelancing and alternative education, not in degrees.
