AACSB stands for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The AACSB sets high standards for business schools. In order to receive accreditation, schools must prepare their students for their future careers in accordance with the association’s rigorous requirements.  Getting accredited isn’t a quick or easy process. It generally takes over two years to complete, between creating comprehensive plans and undergoing intense evaluations. Once accredited, schools must be re-evaluated every 5 years to maintain their credentials. Just 5% of around 13,000 business schools around the globe are AACSB accredited, which is a testament to the dedication of these programs.  Accreditation might seem inconsequential when you’re choosing your MBA program, but keep in mind that top employers may not recruit graduates from schools that are not accredited. Studies have shown that those who graduate from an AACSB school have higher levels of performance, which is why the world’s best employers select graduates only from these top programs.  It’s certainly possible to choose a quality program that is not accredited by AACSB, but know that you may be passed up for certain opportunities and your education might have some gaps. These programs are perfect for people with busy schedules, such as parents. They are also ideal for people who are working while earning an MBA.  One of the best aspects of an AACSB accredited school is that you’ll get real-world immersion. Even if you choose a convenient online program, you will still get hands-on experience and interactive learning that will allow you to begin your career with the confidence and skills you need to succeed. 

Steps to Take Towards Applying for Your MBA Program

Once you know which schools align with your needs, you need to think about any preparations that may be necessary to apply for an MBA program. Each school has different requirements, so it’s best to know which programs you want to consider before you work on any application prerequisites.  Most schools will require some basics: your transcripts, an essay, and a resume. Many MBA programs will require you to take the GRE or GMAT exam, but not all. If you need to take one of these exams, it’s important to study for them and to take them seriously.  You will also likely need recommendation letters. Only ask people who can speak directly to your work, and make sure you give them ample time to get their letters back to you—most people are extremely busy and if you’re asking for a favor, you can’t rush them.  Finally, you will need to turn in your materials on time, with the proper fees, and prepare for an interview. Applying for an MBA can be time-consuming, but the benefits you’ll gain from earning an advanced degree will allow you to reach your full career potential.
